Rudolph “Rudy” Kurt Unruh, 85, passed away on Monday November 20th , 2017. A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 24 at 9:30 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Wing, ND. The family will be receiving friends one hour prior to services. Graveside services are scheduled for 12:00 noon at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND.
Rudy was born to Christian and Catherine Unruh on the family farm in Glen Ullin, ND November 12th1932. He was raised on that Glen Ullin family farm and later enlisted in the Air Force during the Korean conflict. Upon discharge, he returned to Wing, ND where he met his future wife Mary Jane Berg. They married on September 19th, 1960 and spent the early years of their marriage in Pierre, SD. They relocated back to Wing where he resided the balance of his years with his wife raising four sons.
Rudy spent his working career in the construction industry as a 55 year member of International Association of Bridge Structural and Ornamental Ironworkers. Projects that he contributed to include: the Oahe Dam, Mandan Refinery, ICBM missile sites in eastern North Dakota, Powerhouses located in Center and Underwood, Coal Gasification plant in Beulah and one of the four tallest manmade structures in the world located in Galesburg, North Dakota.
Rudy enjoyed spending free time during his working and retirement years in his backyard garden, making sauerkraut, ice fishing, home butchering and processing sausages, and hunting large game with his favorite pastime being spent preparing and reloading for numerous prairie dog hunts in western North Dakota.
He is survived by four sons; Brian (Mandan), Bruce (Garner, NC), Brent (Wing), and Blain (Wausau, WI); two siblings; Roland “Pete” (Bismarck) and Ruth (Bismarck); eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mary, father Christian, mother Catherine, brothers Armin and Rueben.
