Rowena Wolters Johannes, 85, of Bismarck (formerly of Underwood) passed away June 25, 2018. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 29 at GracePoint Church.  Burial will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery. 
Visitation will be Thursday, June 28, from 5-7 pm at the Bismarck Funeral Home.
Rowena was born August 31, 1932 in Morrison County, MN, to James William (Willie) and Myrtle Wolters and graduated from Little Falls, MN high school in 1949.
Rowena taught country school north of Holdingford, MN. She then attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, IL, 1952-1955. After graduation she came to spend time with her sister Thelma and husband Harold Johannes in North Dakota. There she met the love of her life, Weston, when she went to work for the Henry Johannes family. In January 1956 she was hired to teach country school near Carrington, ND.
She married Weston Johannes on June 16, 1956. They rented and later purchased a farm west of Underwood. Rowena and Weston moved into Underwood for 18 years before subsequently moving to Bismarck in 2011. They were blessed with four children.
Rowena was part of many organizations. She was a leader in a 4-H group and joined the Farm Bureau ladies’ organization. Rowena also belonged to the local homemakers club. She was active with Child Evangelism Fellowship and helped organize kids clubs for many years. She held various roles in the Underwood Presbyterian Church and was chairwoman of the women’s Presbyterian fellowship of the tri-state region for several years.
Weston and Rowena enjoyed their time at Edgewood in Bismarck until Weston passed away in 2013.
Rowena is survived by her children; Paul (Jody) Johannes of Bismarck, and their daughters Jenifer (Andy) Juris of Bickleton, WA, Jesica of Spokane, WA, and Jodi (Marlon) Finley of Chicago, IL;  Doyle (Patsy) of Underwood, and their children: son Matthew (Denise) of Underwood, daughters Katelyn (Mike) Watson of West Fargo, and Melissa (Charles) of Billings, MT; Rebecca Joy (Timothy) Durkop of Spokane, WA, and their children:  daughter Chelsea of Spokane, WA, and son Mitchell of Sandpoint, ID;  and Sarah (Michael) Dziuk and their children: sons Logan and Carson of Woodinville, WA; along with sister Thelma Johannes and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to GracePoint Women’s Bible Study or the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.
