Nancy Lynn Jackson, 51, passed away December 7, 2017 at Sanford Hospital, Bismarck. Services will be held at the Baptist Health Care Center Chapel at 1 p.m. on December 13. Cremation will be followed by interment at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.
Nancy was born May 1, 1966 in Sacramento, California to Donna and Bill Jackson. She was the second born, preceded by Douglas and followed by Michael.
Nancy developed at a very slow rate for about one year after birth, and then began to neurologically regress. She was eventually diagnosed with Rett Syndrome, as a result of genetic studies. Rett Syndrome is a rare and genetically degenerative condition found only in females averaging 1 in 15,000.
Since 3 years of age, Nancy has resided at the Good Shepard Home of the West in Victorville, California, Pacific State Hospital in Pomona, California, Wheatridge State School in Denver, Colorado, North Dakota Developmental Center at Grafton, Hit Group Home in Mandan and most recently at the Baptist Health Care Center in Bismarck. She moved as her family was transferred to different locations due to work assignments, and also due to her own health concerns. Nancy had far outlived her life expectancy and has had numerous health issues over the years. Her long life was due, in no small part, to the great care and wonderful caregivers who attended her throughout her life.
Because she could not speak, we never knew her pains or discomforts, we could only guess and rely on medical test results. Nancy enjoyed music, bright colors and the company and touch of others. She did speak to everyone with her bright and searching eyes and her beautiful smile.
Nancy will be dearly missed by her family and many others who knew her.
