Maurine T. Ault Striegel, born June 15th, 1929 to Nick and Violet Ault of Cavalier, ND passed away peacefully on June 5th, 2017 at Missouri Slope Nursing Home in Bismarck. She was raised in Cavalier, graduating from high school in 1947. She worked for the State's attorney's office until 1948. While visiting her brother Robert Ault at the Agricultural College (NDSU) in Fargo, she met her future husband, Curtis Striegel, who was her brother's roommate.
Maurine moved to Bismarck, worked for the Attorney General's Office, and in 1949 won the crown of Miss Bismarck. She married Curtis G. Striegel of Leith, ND on September 3rd, 1950 in Cavalier.
Maurine and Curt had four children during the 1950's; Janice, Nick, John, and Paul. They lived in Bismarck and Mandan until 1957, when they moved to Leith, ND to farm with Curt's brother. In 1960 the family moved back to Bismarck, ND. They were founding members of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church; integral to the building of church and parsonage and remained active members to the present day. Maurine taught kindergarten at Our Saviour’s throughout the 1960's and 1970’s.
In 1970 Maurine and Curt started the KOA Campground of Bismarck. This was more than a full-time job for Maurine, as she was vital to establishing the success of their endeavor. They sold the campground in 1978 and moved to their next home south of Bismarck to enjoy horses and their country home.
The focus of Maurine's life behind her strong faith and participation at church was the unconditional love she had for her husband and family. They are what she lived and worked for. She enjoyed many family vacations and the trips she and Curt made together. Besides the joy and pride raising her children, she especially enjoyed seeing her grandchildren grow up. She also took satisfaction in seeing her flowers, trees, and gardens grow and develop. Maurine loved family reunions and the opportunities to entertain friends and relatives. She enjoyed the times they spent participating in the honorary 7th Cavalry, and riding in the Badlands with the DeMores Riders. Maurine was always positive, quick to smile, and always one to encourage others. Her biggest smile and happiest moments were found when she was dancing with her husband.
She is survived by her husband Curt Striegel. Children: Janice Striegel Lindsey, Bismarck; Nick and Leslie Henning Striegel, Westminster, CO; and Paul and Tami Goetz Striegel, Fargo. Brothers: Merle and Barb Ault, Everett and Dolly Ault. Grandchildren: Jessica Lindsey; Drew, Matthew and Sara Nelson Striegel, Nicholas, Natalie, Mara, John, Dylan, Savannah Striegel; Joseph, Steven, Laurel Striegel.
