It is with great sadness that the family of Mary Dresser announces her passing on September 13, 2018. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, September 20, with Fr. John Guthrie at the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, Bismarck.
Mary was born April 11, 1950 to Nick and Regina (Hartze) Miller in Mandan.  She grew up in Mandan the second oldest of 10 siblings and graduated from Mandan High School in 1968.  After high school she worked as a nurse’s assistant at St. Alexius Hospital.  She met her husband Larry Dresser through her good friend Marge who also was Larry’s cousin. The two were married July 3rd, 1971.   After marriage, they eventually moved back to Center in 1989 where she was the partner in the family farm/ranch business.
Mary was a wife, caregiver, mother, grandmother of five, great-grandmother of one, as well as grandmother to many of the neighborhood kids. She was known as a remarkable cook, gardener, canner and homemaker. Her beautiful, caring heart and loving personality touched all those that surrounded her.  God blessed her with the gift of empathy.  She was able to put herself in other peoples’ shoes and through that, be non-judgmental and offer sincere support.
She spent her time helping others at the House of Mana in Center supplying the less fortunate with clothes, household items, and the many quilts she handmade from recycled denim and other recycled fabrics.
In 1998 Larry suffered a stroke which left him requiring her to become a full-time care giver. They also moved into Center to a smaller home so she would be able to keep her house neat and tidy but also would have more time with her husband.  This also allowed her the opportunity to be more involved in her community.   Her loving and exceptional care allowed him to continue living at home where he continued to create many wonderful memories with his children and grandchildren, which wouldn’t have been possible without her.
Mary is survived by her nine siblings; two sisters-in-law; four children, Michelle (Glen) Ternes, Lee Dresser, Brian (Tina) Dresser, & Mike Dresser; grandchildren, Amber (Nate) Peltier, Justin Ternes, Megan Ternes, Ben Dresser and Joe Dresser; great-granddaughter, Leilani Peltier; many beloved nieces and nephews; special friend, Lee Benjamin, and so many other special friends she held close to her heart.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Larry.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice in honor of our mom, as that is what she would have wanted.
