Mary was born on August 3, 1953 to Roy and Maxine (See) Brown in Bismarck. She was raised on the family farm at Sterling.
She had cerebral palsy. She never walked, but living her life in a wheelchair didn’t slow her down. Mary never said a word, but she was one of the best communicators we’ve ever known. She had her own style of sign language. Mary’s personality could light up a room and she usually had a smile on her face. She was one the smartest people we knew. It seems like she could remember everything that ever happened – good or bad.
Mary had a wicked sense of humor. If she disagreed with you she didn’t hesitate to let you know. Mary also had a very kind heart. She would always be ready with a hug or a kiss to help the hurt go away. She also loved her jewelry and her stuffed animals. She wouldn’t go anywhere without either of them. All who lived with her and cared for her learned to be open, kind, non-judgmental and not to let someone’s exterior or perceived capacity fool you. You learned from her that you don’t know the journey someone has been on until you truly see them and understand them for all they are. She lived her last 22 years in the loving and compassionate care of the staff at South Washington for which we will be forever grateful.
Mary is survived by Robert (De Layne) Brown; Rosa Lee (Clayton) Wolt; William (Rhonda) Brown; Sharon Brown; one aunt, Darlene Brown; and one uncle, Glen Donalson; several nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews and many friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents (Roy and Maxine Brown); grandparents; one brother, Richard; one sister, Royann; one niece, Vicki Schimetz; and several aunts and uncles.
