Leora Kathryn Andersonpassed peacefully at Baptist Healthcare Center in Bismarck on January 13, 2018 at the age of 84. Memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday January 16th at Bismarck Funeral Home. Family will be receiving friends one hour prior to service.
She had been living at Edgewood Vista in Bismarck where she and her husband had relocated to be close to family. She was born to Gudrun and Arthur Bird in Flaxton, North Dakota on April 25, 1933. She grew up and attended Flaxton High School. She was united in marriage to Darven Anderson, her loyal partner of 67 years, on September 29, 1950 in Flaxton. They made their home in Bowbells, North Dakota, Powell, Wyoming, Crosby, North Dakota, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Park Rapids, Minnesota, and most recently in Bismarck, North Dakota.
She and Darven shared many years in business at Andy’s Men’s Clothing Stores in Bowbells, Crosby, and Williston, North Dakota. They also enjoyed many retirement years together at Long Lake in Park Rapids, Minnesota. Leora and Darven made many memories at their earlier lake home in Saskatchewan as well as enjoying the adventure of travelling to many places around the country (including a motorcycle trip to Tennessee).
Leora was an avid reader, an accomplished seamstress, making many of her children’s’ clothes, as well as an active and competitive Bridge player, wherever she was living. She enjoyed gardening, particularly flowers, and she enjoyed watching the large varieties of wild birds and the deer that were being nurtured at their Minnesota lake home.
Leora was an active church member where she played organ, taught Sunday school, and taught Luther League. She and Darven were more recently members of Trinity Episcopal/Presbyterian Church in Park Rapids.
Leora was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Survivors include her husband Darven, son Roger, daughters Debbie (Randy)Nehring and Terri Farrell (Chris Darden); her seven grandchildren Tina (Jerry) Whittington, Scott (Chrissy) Freed, Jesse (Kim) Anderson, Angela (Andy) Erickson, Heidi (Ed) Bloom, T.J. (Kerrie) Farrell, and Gretchen (Mike) Chaplin. She is also survived by 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 2 daughters, Denise Anderson and Cheryl (Dennis) Freed, her parents and siblings Ronald Bird, Marion Kohler, Keith Bird, Lloyd Bird, and David Bird.
