Our beloved mother, Leona Edna Hausauer, entered the gates of heaven on October 21, 2017. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 26, at Bismarck Funeral Home.
Leona entered this word on December 22, 1935, born the youngest of ten children to homesteaders, Carl and Katherine Sayler, outside Garrison, ND.
Leona married her tone true love, Walter “Wally” Hausauer Sr., February 14, 1954 and they had four children. They began their life together in Minot and then moved to McClusky, where together, they ran the Jack and Jill store until Wally’s sudden death in February of 1969. Leona continued to raise her family in McClusky. She worked at McClusky Lumber, McClusky Drug Store and as a home care provider.
Leona was living at the Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center in Bismarck, where she was made to feel special by the staff who took a “shine” to her and her daily “dress up” outfits. She was always referred to as “hey beautiful”, “Miss America” or just “pretty Mama”.
Leona loved to travel and managed to hit the basic highlights, Nashville, Branson, and Las Vegas. She also traveled to Colorado and Montana to see family before embarking on this final journey.
Leona leaves behind four children, Walter Hausauer Jr., Lori (Grant) Hausauer, Michael Hausauer and Tina Hausauer and their families, which include six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She also leaves her sister, Doris (Alex) Steinwand and brother, Floyd (Deloris) Sayler; and many nieces, nephews, and special friends.
Loved ones meeting Leona in heaven are her husband Walter “Wally” Sr., her parents, Carl and Kathrine Sayler; brothers, Howard and Art; her sisters, Alpha, Alvina, Stella, Elsie and Ruth; and her great-grandson, Ryder.
Leona’s children Lori, Tina, Mike and Walt would like to extend a VERY SPECIAL Thank You to the entire staff at the Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center for the outstanding care and love you shared with your “Miss America” and our dearest and loved forever Mom, Leona.
