Laverne H. “Bud” Nodland, 88, Bismarck, died Monday, April 23, 2018 at his home in the loving care of his family and CHI Hospice. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 30, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 1402 Ave C East, Bismarck.
Visitation will be Sunday, April 29, from 5 – 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 at Bismarck Funeral Home, 3723 Lockport Street, Bismarck.
Bud was born March 8, 1930 to Tennis G. and Esther (Folven) Nodland at Frost, MN. He grew up on a farm and was baptized, confirmed and graduated high school at Frost. A rather quiet man, he caught the eye of a certain Kiester, Minnesota girl, who was never known to be quiet, and they were married on March 27, 1951.
He served in the Army from 1952 to 1954, during that time he spent 14 months in Korea. The GI bill allowed him to attend Northwestern Electronics School for 2 years in Minneapolis. Upon graduation he began his career with AT&T. He spent 2 years in Stevens Point, WI and the remainder of his 36 years with AT&T in Bismarck.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Diantha (Challgren), his children, Robin Nodland (Gene Palmisano) Angela (Timothy) Heaton, and Charles Nodland; grandchildren include: Ryan (Jamie) Preszler, Tyler Preszler, Daniel (Crystal) Heaton, Matthew (Mateena) Heaton, Benjamin Heaton and Eric Nodland (Mallory Woodcock); great-grandchildren Ewen Heaton and Rylee Heaton; his sisters, Millie Clark, Thelma Stene, Suzie Forde and Vonnie Gemaehlich.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to Faith Lutheran Church.
