Joseph “Joe” Sickler Jr. 77, Bismarck, died May 10, 2018, in a Fargo hospital. Mass of Christian burial will be on Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at 12:30 p.m., at the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit. Visitation will be on Monday, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., at the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit with a Rosary and Vigil service at 7:00 p.m. at the church.
Joe was born Nov. 27, 1940, the son of Joe Sickler Sr & Elizabeth Brost. Joe attended a one room country school NW of Hirshville in which he could only speak German. In 1949, he moved to the present dairy farm north of Gladstone which he attended another one room country school house and then later graduating from Gladstone High School in 1958. Joe farmed land with his father. Joe married Alice Willer on July 11, 1960 at St Thomas Catholic Church. Joe instilled in his children the value of hard work & he always made time for his catholic faith. On June 7th, 1996 Joe married Donna Martinucci.
Joe was very active in the Gladstone, Dickinson and Bismarck communities. He drove school bus for Gladstone and Dickinson School Districts for 17 years. Joe was also a 4-H leader, Board member of St. Thomas Church, worked for ASCS, Schnell Livestock and co-owner of T & S Staker's. He was a member of Dakota Wood Turners Club, Bismarck, the Elks Club and Eagles Club. He was a lifetime member of 3rd & 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.
Joe loved to play cards, especially pinochle. He loved spending time & attending the activities of his grandchildren, whether it was through sports, programs or just them coming to visit. Joe was always a great guy to do the polka with. In his retirement he worked for Office Systems and he enjoyed turning and working with wood, gardening and tilling.
Joe leaves behind his wife Donna, children Randy (Laura) Sickler, Dickinson, Bruce (Angela) Sickler, Arlington, TX, Debbie (Keenan) Spiess, Fargo, Step Daughter, Renee (Chris) Peterson, Parker, CO, Step Son, Delonce Martinucci, Shady Side, MD, Sister JoAnn (Harvey) Heiser, Dickinson, Brother Melvin Sickler, Rougemont Quebec, Canada, 9 grandchildren, 6 step grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 8 step great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Alice (1993), one daughter (Bernice) and one son (Patrick).
