James (Jim) Philip Burgard Jr. passed away Oct. 9, 2017, at his home in Bismarck, surrounded by his family and friends, under the care of St. Alexius Hospice. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, October 19, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Bismarck. Family will be receiving friends on Wednesday, from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a service of remembrance at 7:00 p.m., at the Bismarck Funeral Home.
Jim Burgard was born on July 28, 1954, the son of James (Phil) and Donnie Burgard in McVille, ND. He grew up on the farm outside of McVille and received his education there, graduating from McVille High School. He attended North Dakota State University in Fargo.
Jim was united in marriage to Rhonda Kahl on May 28th, 1976. They lived for a year in Sioux City Iowa, returning to Fargo in 1977, where Jim was employed by Steiger Tractor. In 1982, Jim became the owner of Burgard Roofing which he operated for 10 years before accepting employment with Western Products/All New Gutter Service. In 1994, the family moved to Bismarck and Jim became All New Gutter Service’s Bismarck manager. Jim finished his career working for a couple of years in the ND oilfields and as a control room supervisor for KLJ.
Jim was a loving husband and father who was very involved in the activities of all of his children including hunting, fishing, soccer, wrestling and Boy Scouts of America. He was an avid racing fan and for a few years had his own “bomber” and Legends race cars. He loved to travel and for the past few years he and his wife made it a point to visit new parts of the country often to attend a NASCAR race.
Jim is survived by his wife, Rhonda Burgard, Bismarck; his children, Aaron (Darcy) Burgard, Wilmington, NC, John Burgard, Thomas Burgard, both of Bismarck and his foster son Saul Trevino, Robinson, Texas; his sisters Lana (John) Murphy, Waco, Texas and Rae (Douglas) Smith, Gardner, ND. Also surviving is his father in-law, Wes Kahl and several nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Randy.
