James “Buzz” L. Famias, 82, passed away on October 22, 2017. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 27, 2017 at Church of St. Anne with Rev. Wayne Sattler officiating. Burial will be held at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.
Visitation will be from 5-8 with a rosary/prayer service at 7:00 on Thursday, Oct. 26 at Bismarck Funeral Home.
James was born in Grand Forks, ND on September 2, 1935 to Christ and Beatrice Famias. He attended Northern State College in Aberdeen, SD. James married Bernice Gefre of Aberdeen in 1961 and they were married for 56 years. Jim was a member of St. Anne’s Church for 48 years. He was a tire salesman for Goodyear Tire and Firestone for over 30 years. He retired from Main Street Tire. Jim was involved in organizing the Midget Football League in Bismarck. He was an avid sportsman. He enjoyed attending local sporting events at St. Mary’s High School and the University of Mary over the years.
Jim is survived by his wife, Bernice; daughter, Lori Famias-Hager of Grand Rapids, MI; sons, David (Tracy) Famias of Bismarck and Steve and Gail Baranko-Famias of Maple Grove, MN; and his grandchildren, Ken and Ryan Hager, Travis, Ashley and Tyler Famias, and Brandon Famias.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Dean; and his sister, Marlene Schumacher.
