Irene Johnson 95, Bismarck, passed away at St. Alexius Hospital April 26, 2018 surrounded by family. Services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, May 2nd at First Presbyterian Church, Bismarck with Reverend Mutzenberger. Burial will be held at the Carson Cemetery at 3 PM Central Time.
 Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 1st 5:00-7:00 PM at Bismarck Funeral Home.
Irene was born February 20th, 1923 at Heil, ND to Helmuth and Rose (Nutz) Heil. She was baptized as an infant at the Heil Reformed Church. She was raised and educated at Carson, graduating with honors and received her teaching certificate from Dickinson College, and taught country school for one year.
Irene belonged to 4-H, learning how to sew and embroider. She also belonged to the Carson Girl Scouts. In 1942 Irene married Omer Johnson and became a farmer’s wife and homemaker. They had three children, Marlynn, Lowell, and Mary Jane (Janie).
Omer and Irene retired from the farm and moved to Bismarck in 1981.
Irene enjoyed raising flowers, reading, puzzles, sewing, embroidering dish towels, crocheting afghans, baking, cooking, and having family and friends in for dinner and picnics.
Grateful to have shared in her life was her husband Omer, daughter Marlynn (Dave) Bonogofsky, son Lowell (Lavina), and daughter Mary Jane (Janie); four grandchildren, Dr. Michelle Bonogofsky, Lori (Lance) Doerr, Melissa (Josh) Burchinal, and Susan Brenneise: seven great-grandchildren, Josh Doerr, Caleb, Jacob, Mikayla Hansen, Makenna Burchinal, Kylie, Chauvin, and Tianna Brenneise; one step great-granddaughter, Kaberly Doerr; one sister, Garnet Sokolofsky; one sister-in-law, Bernice Steinley; and many nieces and nephews.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Omer, daughter Mary Jane (Janie), grandson Daved Allen Bonogofsky, her sister Betty Schreck, brother Ralph, brothers-in-law, Richard Shreck, Walter Sokolofsky, and Harlan Steinley, brothers and sisters-in-law, Morville and Evelyn Skretteberg, Clarence and Charlotte Johnson, father and mother in law Charles and Manda Johnson.
