Gladys Ann Pfennig passed away peacefully on March 9, 2018 at a Mandan Care Center at the age of 88. Services will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, Bismarck, on March 21, 2018 at 11:00AM with the Reverend Thomas Marcis Jr. officiating.
Gladys was born on Nov 1, 1929 to Christ and Anna (Hohenacker) Wolf in Long Lake, SD where she grew up, and lived on the family farm outside of Long Lake. In 1947 she married Reinhold Schauer, and moved to a farm near Ashley, ND. She moved to Bismarck, ND in 1967 and married Melvin Pfennig in 1970.
Gladys raised five children and was proud of and often boasted of how she was an only child and had grown the family tree to 27. Family was the utmost importance to her, she had unconditional love for her husband Melvin, who preceded her in death in April 2017. Gladys loved her retirement years "wintering in Arizona". She was very active in her community, enjoying shuffle board, developing a hidden talent of painting, and card games. She was loved by everyone and was nicknamed “Little Gladys”.
In Bismarck, Gladys was very active in her church. She was part of the inaugural Stephens Ministry Program in which she served for many years, in addition to serving the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. She was always available to help her children in any capacity and helped joyfully. The family thanks the good Lord for allowing her to be with us all these years.
Grateful for having shared Gladys' life are her children, Linda Rohrbach, Gold Canyon, AZ, Pat (Ron) Duval, Horace, ND, Bruce Schauer, Fargo, ND, and Rob (Lisa) Pfennig, Bismarck, ND, her 10 Grandchildren, 11 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great Great Grandchild.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her son Bryen, and her Granddaughter Kristine.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers donations be made to LWML at Zion Lutheran Church, 413 E Ave D., Bismarck, ND 58501.
