Eugene R. Elhard, 80, Bismarck passed away at his home on April 1, 2018 of cancer. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, April 5, at Calvary United Methodist Church with Rev. Perry Schnabel officiating. Burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8 p.m., Wednesday, April 4 at Bismarck Funeral Home.
Eugene was born February 10, 1938 to Andrew and Ardina (Presler) Elhard. He graduated from Jamestown High School. He married Marcella Weisenburger on February 14, 1960. They had two children; Gregory and Julie. Gene worked for the North Dakota State Highway Department until his retirement and was with the Bismarck Auxiliary Police Force for a couple of years. He was a member of the National Guard and the Army Reserve
He enjoyed being a HAM radio operator and loved telling stories and jokes. He was a member of the AmVets. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He will be missed by many.
He is survived by daughter Julie, Bismarck; daughter-in-law Marni (Jeff) McGuire, Montana; sisters Janice Hanson, Jamestown, Eunice (Dean) Casci, Fargo; and brother Jevon (Lori) Elhard, Jamestown; grandsons Cody, Mandan and Connor, Washington; granddaughter Fallon (Peter) Tranel, Montana; great-grandson Caleb and great-granddaughter Emma, Mandan; nephews Tracy Hanson, Horace, Travis Hanson, Jamestown, Ian (Erin) Casci, Pennsylvania, and Jeremiah Wehler, Texas; niece Dawn (Paora) Wano, Australia; and niece-in-law Jennifer Elhard, Fargo; five great-nieces and one great-nephew.
He was preceded in death by an infant brother (Delvin), both of his parents, wife Marcella, son Gregory, brother-in-law Earl Hanson, and nephew Andrew T. Elhard.
