Douglas E. Hausauer, 67, Bismarck, passed away May 3, 2018 at home after a long courageous battle with cancer. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday May 9, at Evangel Assemble of God Church in Bismarck, ND with the burial at the McClusky City Cemetery, McClusky, ND.
Visitation will be Tuesday, May 8, from 5- 7 with a 7:00 prayer service at Bismarck Funeral Home.
Douglas was born August 11, 1950, at Longview, WA to Alvin and Charlene (Aldridge) Hausauer. He grew up in rural Regan and attended school and graduated from Regan High School in 1968. He entered the U.S. Army in 1969 and there he became an E5 Sergeant in charge of a platoon section of 8 men and was discharge with “Honorable Discharge” in 1971. He returned to Regan and began farming with his father.
Douglas married Evangeline K. Dockter on June 1, 1973 at McClusky and continued farming until 1974 when they moved to Montana where he went to school and graduated from Mountain Plains school with a certificate in carpentry and blue print drawing and reading. They returned to Regan where he worked at the Regan Grain Elevator building houses and pole barns and handling grain until 1989. They moved to Bismarck in 1990 where Douglas worked for UBC and in 1996 he worked as custodian and head custodian for the Bismarck Public School system until 2003 where they farmed his wife’s family Dockter farm in McClusky until Douglas became ill.
In his younger years he enjoyed working with wood, building and remodeling house and pole barns. He enjoyed country music, and was a big fan of NASCAR. He enjoyed his last years traveling the United States with his wife, Vangie.
Douglas severed on the Regan School Board, the Regan Fire Department and Regan City board and was Mayor of Regan. He also was a member and a commander of the American Legion at Wing, North Dakota.
Douglas is survived by his wife, Evangeline and sons, Michael and Rory, (Bismarck) and daughter, Susan Hausauer and two beautiful granddaughters, Emilee and Aimee Hausauer-Johnson, (Lincoln), his brothers Jack (Pat) Gatlin, Michael (Renee) Robinson, Mark (Kari) Hausauer, Barry (Rhody) Hausauer, and sisters, Kathleen (Rick) Rankin, Karen Robinson, Anita (Joel) Colclasure, Sandy Johnson, and Nancy Johnson, and Honorary Mother Arlene Hausauer and Honorary Sister-in-Law Joann Hausauer. He leaves many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father Alvin, mother Charlene, and brother Alan. Douglas will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the American Legion of Wing, ND.
