Dorothy Kurtz, 91, Bismarck, passed away August 22, 2018 at CHI St. Alexius Health after a five-year struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She died with family by her side. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, Bismarck. Burial will be held at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm, Monday, August 27, followed by a rosary/vigil service at 7:00 p.m. at Bismarck Funeral Home.
Dorothy Helen Zielke was born in Faribault, MN on September 7, 1926 to Alvin and Alma (Bartz) Zielke. In September of 1942 Dorothy and Joe started their relationship. They married June 19, 1945 in Devils Lake, ND. Dorothy’s family was the joy of her life. She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, playing bridge with friends, camping and wintering in Arizona.
Dorothy will be deeply missed by her husband of 73 years, Joe; children: Patricia (Thomas) Schulz, Kathleen Kurtz, William (Claudia) Kurtz, and Duane (Carol) Kurtz, all of Bismarck and JoAnn (Walter) Hoff and Brian Kurtz, both of Mesa, AZ; nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Carol Schaff.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
