Agnes Mary Collins, 96, Bismarck, passed away on January 12, 2018 in Sanford Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 17, at 1:00 p.m. at Bismarck Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to the start of the service.
Agnes was born on August 11, 1921 in Hatton, ND to Axel and Alma (Ness) Nelson. She was raised and educated in Hatton. She graduated 8thgrade in 1935, and high school in 1939. She went on to Mayville College where she received her teaching degree in 1942. She married Rosco Collins in 1948. In the following years her children, James (1949), Richard (1950) and Mary (1952) were born.
She taught grades 1 – 3 for 17 years throughout North Dakota and then substituted for the Bismarck School System. She enjoyed working with young children and later, with the elderly. She was always looking out for and caring for her family. She was blessed by being alert all her life and through the last full day of her life, when she brought smiles and laughter to a nurse, a doctor, a housekeeper and her children from her bed.
She is survived by her children: James of Bismarck, Richard (Ann) of Indiana, and Mary of Bismarck; sisters: Norma (Rob) Argall, Selma Streich, Elsie (Elwood) Skarpness and Helen (Lyle) Krueger; along with many nieces and nephews.
Agnes was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; four sisters; her husband Rosco; and a grandchild, Rose Jensen.
