LUELLA J. RATH

Luella Jane (Aichele) Rath, 83, passed peacefully into heaven on Wednesday, April 10, 2019, with her husband Benny by her side at their home.  A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 16th at Sterling United Methodist Church.  The visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Monday, April 15th, at Bismarck Funeral Home with a prayer service starting at 7:00 p.m.

Luella was born April 16, 1935 in Tuttle, ND, to Fred and Mathilda (Auch) Aichele. She attended grade school at Thelma Township country school and graduated from Driscoll High School. She received her Teacher’s Certificate from Valley City. Luella married the love of her life, Benny Rath, at the Sterling United Methodist Church on June 10, 1956. They were happily married for over 62 years.  After Benny returned from the Korean War in July 1958, they had 4 sons, Kevin, Kent, Kurt and Kip. They lived and raised their family in Sterling.

Luella accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at a very young age. She loved, lived, and walked with Him all of her life.

Her greatest joys came from spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family, and friends. Lue loved being active, going places and doing things. Whether it was attending a choir concert, piano recital, school function, basketball game, graduation, or rotating her cane above her head as a semi was driven through the yard – she was her family’s biggest encourager and supporter. She was always so proud of her family’s accomplishments. Lue treasured the holidays, adored high heeled shoes, and enjoyed coffee, eating and visiting.

Luella loved her church and was always very involved with the United Methodist organizations. She held almost every office with United Methodist Women (UMW). She taught Sunday school, Bible study (in her home and at church), headed up Good News Clubs with Child Evangelism Fellowship, and was a supporter of Steer Inc. She played the piano for nearly 60 years at the Sterling UM Church. She was involved in her community, belonging to Homemakers, Red Hats Club, Taft Township Board and was an election board inspector. Lue had many occupations throughout her life which included teaching school, being a dental assistant, waitressing, house cleaning for many clients, and selling Avon.

Lue brought love and laughter wherever she went. She loved her family and friends dearly. She will be missed by each and every one of us. The sorrow in our hearts will only be eased by the precious memories that we have of her.

She is survived by her husband, Benny; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Kevin and Meg, and Kip and Linda, Sterling; Kent (Jaci), Douglasville, GA; and Kurt, Henryetta, OK; 8 grandchildren, Nicole (Blaine) Stuhlmiller, Zach (Kaitlyn Binstock) Rath, Andrea Blasingame, Adalynn Rath,  Bo (Holly) Rath, Bethany (Emitt) Klaassen, Brittany Rath, and Luke Rath; two great-grandchildren, Kylin Winterberg and Landen Stuhlmiller; brothers Bernell Aichele (Mary Ann Eisenbarth), Floyd (Bev) Aichele, Bismarck; and Lee Allen Aichele, Sterling; one sister, Shirley (Ron) Hankel, LaMoure; sisters-in law, JoEllen Aichele, Jean Aichele, Irene Rath, and Leona Jones; many nieces and nephews; and dear friend, Janie Lang.
